A lassi is a yogurt-based drink that uses fresh, seasonal fruits to lend sweetness to the otherwise sour notes of plain yogurt. Use oolong or green tea kombucha, both of which have a milder flavor, to allow the delicate sweetness of the peaches to really shine through. Rosewater tops off this cooling favorite with just enough hint of rose to soothe and calm your mind. Even better, the nutritional benefit of kombucha is kicked up a notch when paired with yogurt’s probiotic punch.

PAIR IT

Lassi is typically served in the United States as a sweetened beverage. It’s the perfect complement to the spicy food of India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, where lassi is a traditional drink. The coolness of the yogurt balances the heat of the food. It’s also a savory drink that can be flavored with a whole host of spices and flavorings, including cumin, salt, butter, or turmeric. As much a digestive remedy as an enjoyable beverage, a lassi is typically served at lunchtime during hot weather.
