Haley Casey
Haley has been an editor at Ogden Publications, since the summer of 2017.
She wrote her first chapter book in fifth grade (which remains unpublished, despite her teacher’s praise). After that, she packed as many English electives into her middle school, high school, and college schedules as possible. In 2015, she graduated from The University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in creative writing. That summer, she attended a Young Adult Writing Workshop with author Tessa Gratton, and that fall she attended the Denver Publishing Institute — an in-depth, month-long course about the publishing industry, from agents and editing to proofreading and marketing.
Haley grew up in Prairie Village, Kansas, with parents who valued visiting new places, so she spent summers traveling across North America and Europe. Having four exchange students live with her family at various times helped Haley gain a firsthand look at new ways of thinking and living. And she’s experienced a wide variety of part-time jobs, from Barnes & Noble and the KU Writing Center (where she honed her love of books and her editing abilities) to art museums, veterinary clinics, and restaurants.
Haley began at Ogden Publications in the Web Services team. Eventually she filled a job opening at Mother Earth Living, and combining her love of writing with her love of publishing has made for the perfect fit. She now works on four additional titles: Mother Earth News, Grit, Heirloom Gardener, and Capper’s Farmer, and she occasionally writes for all of them. She also edits the podcasts Mother Earth News and Friends and Community Chickens, as well as styles the cover photos for Mother Earth Living.
Now she tries out green living tips and products on her husband, including garden planning, healthier recipes, essential oils, and scattering houseplants through their home.
